"I came to the Everyday Understanding Workshop expecting a lecture. It was more like a conversation — practical and warm. We actually practised things in the session, not just talked about ideas. My husband and I have used some of the language approaches at home and notice a difference in how quickly we resolve small things."

"The Knowledge Hub has a lot of good material. I was a bit uncertain when I first signed up because I wasn't sure it would be relevant to our particular situation with my mother-in-law living with us. It turned out there were guides specifically about multi-generational households. The peer circle has been a nice surprise — talking to other families dealing with similar things."

"As an expat with Thai family members on both sides, coordinating expectations across different generations felt complicated. The Extended Family Programme helped us find a shared language for everyday routines — not advice, just frameworks. It's subtle but it works. We now have a much clearer idea of who handles what."

"I appreciated that nobody pressured me to share anything personal. The workshop format keeps things at a skills level, which suited me fine. A couple of the exercises felt a bit unfamiliar at first but that passed. I'd definitely do another one."

"We joined the Hub after my son moved back in after university. It's not a crisis — just a period of adjustment. The guides were genuinely useful, and reading them together as a couple helped us get on the same page before having conversations with him. Small thing, but it made a real difference."

"My mother and I both attended the Extended Family Programme together with my husband. I was a little uncertain whether she would be open to it, but the facilitation was relaxed enough that it didn't feel threatening. We ended up having a useful conversation about care routines that we had avoided for a long time."

Case Studies

Participant journeys in more detail

A couple navigating different communication styles

Everyday Understanding Workshop · 4 weeks follow-up

Situation

A couple in their late 30s, both working full-time, found that evenings at home frequently ended in minor disagreements — not about anything serious, but enough to leave both feeling unheard. They were not looking for counselling but wanted practical tools.

Approach

They joined the Everyday Understanding Workshop together. The session focused on how to state a need clearly without framing it as a complaint, and how to signal that you are listening in a way the other person actually notices.

Outcome

At the four-week follow-up they reported fewer repeated disagreements and described evenings as noticeably calmer. Neither attributed this to a single technique — more to both of them choosing to try something slightly different at the same time.

"It sounds small but it changed the tone of our evenings. We were not doing anything wrong before — we just didn't have the same words for what we needed."

A three-generation household sharing care responsibilities

Extended Family Programme · 6 sessions over 8 weeks

Situation

A household with two working parents, their young child, and a grandmother who provided daytime care. Arrangements had grown gradually without ever being clearly discussed. Friction around routines and decision-making had increased over several months.

Approach

The Extended Family Programme was structured so that the parents attended some sessions together, the grandmother attended others separately, and three sessions brought the whole group together. Focus was on planning language and coordination habits rather than personal dynamics.

Outcome

The family reported clearer shared expectations around daily routines and a reduction in last-minute friction. They also noted that the grandmother felt more included in planning conversations, which had been an underlying source of tension they hadn't named until the sessions gave them language for it.

"My mother finally understood what I was asking for — not because I said something new, but because we both had a clearer way to frame it."
